A New Archbishop of Canterbury needed

Archbishop Rowan Williams has now announced his intention to retire from his post at the end of the year. First of all let us rejoice and give thanks for his leadership and example over the 9 years or so he has led us. Archbishop Rowan has strived to build bridges between people who disagree with each other in many spheres of life, both inside and outside the church. He has spoken up about matters of Christian faith in our nation and its practical outworking, especially when he has seen government policy not being as Christ-like as it might be. In all of these situations he has been gracious, generous and self-giving. He has led by example in humility and grace.

Please continue to pray for him - he still has another 8 months left to go! Please also pray for those responsible for choosing his successor and for the person who will be selected for the role - to say it is demanding is putting it mildly.

If you would like to make any comments about the kind of candidate you would like as the next archbishop or even suggest names (not mine!) please contact: Ms Caroline Boddington, Archbishops’ Secretary for Appointments, The Wash House, Lambeth Palace, London SE1 7JU or e-mail:

May you know God’s blessings as the summer draws near.
