Snooker in Church?

A few months ago I was invited to play snooker in the Sudbury club. I happily accepted, having good memories of playing snooker as a teenager. I have hardly played since and never in a club. What should I wear to play snooker? How was I to get into the building? The door was locked and no-one was in sight. Do I have to book in advance? When there - when is it your turn to play? Once the evening was over, apparently the last people playing on a table are supposed to collect up the balls and cover the table with a cloth - but I hadn’t seen a sign saying this anywhere.

I enjoyed my evening and in no way say the above to criticize the club - but it highlighted to me how so many things can be taken for granted and not explained to a newcomer. I think we do the same in church. How much do we take for granted that people will know what to do? How much do we expect of visitors without explaining to them what we do? There is always a balance - because if everything is explained every week, life becomes too full of tedious repetition. However, I suspect we need to help more than we do.

What is your experience of All Saints Church? I would love to hear your stories of what you found that was unexpected or confusing - such stories will help us to do things better next time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes in Christ,
